David Wayne Cooper

It is with sadness and heavy hearts that the family of David Wayne Cooper announce his sudden passing on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the age of 55. He passed away in Del Sol Hospital, El Paso Texas.

David was born February 15, 1970, in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Allan E. Cooper and Audry “Jean” Cooper.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa and children Kasey Cooper (Kristen Biggins); Gayla Cooper; Joseph Lenger (Sofia Nunez); Aaron Cooper; KayLee Lenger (Dominic Brite); and Gary Allan Cooper. Grandchildren include Eric and Sienna Lenger; Don, Amilla, Domanic and Arabella Cooper. He is also survived by his father, Allan Cooper and his wife Patricia Cooper (his stepmother); his sisters Robin (Don Spahr); Christy (Jason Duff) and Kelly Cooper; his stepsisters Teresa (Richard Moore) and Dorothy (Joeal Gutierrez); step grandmother Iva Haddad; his aunt Ellen Cooper and nieces and nephews; Treven and Nyssa Sphar; Jeremiah (Ailey Holden) and Jaycob Duff (Brianna); Alishia Bronson (Bobby) and Seth Moore (Kate Potter); Tray and Danica Evans. David was preceded in death by his mother, Audry Jean Cooper and both maternal and paternal grandparents.

David was a proud Army veteran. He also spent 17 years working at New Mexico State University (NMSU), Facilities and Services. He took great pride in maintaining the athletic fields and grounds. His meticulous attention to detail was obvious on every project. He was also in the process of completing further education at NMSU to enhance his skills and knowledge. In his spare time, he coached various sports teams and helped to instill integrity and sportsmanship whether winning or losing. David not only taught his beliefs, but he lived them to the fullest. He was the first one to offer help and support - as well as a “swift kick” when necessary. He believed in doing what was right and accepted no excuses. He believed in his country, community and he believed in family. He enjoyed car racing, camping, cruising, creating family memories and ensuring family traditions continued. David will be greatly missed and remembered by many.

Services will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E Bowman Ave, Las Cruces, NM 88001. Visitation from 9-10 am; Services at 10:00 am followed by graveside burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 5140 W Picacho Ave, Las Cruces, NM 88007. Pallbearers will be Kasey Cooper, Aaron Cooper, Joseph Lenger, Jeremiah Duff, Jaycob Duff and Tray Evans.
