Danny Dewey Guy

Danny D. Guy May 4, 1945 - December 21, 2018 A "Farmer at Heart" Danny Dewey Guy of Las Cruces, NM passed away in the early morning hours of December 21, 2018. Cherished husband, father, and grandfather, led a fulfilling and wonderful life. Danny grew up on a farm where he developed a life-long love for animals and the art of gardening. In 1963 he answered the call to serve his country and joined the Air Force. During the Vietnam War he worked in communications and was stationed on Johnston Island (located in the North Pacific Ocean southwest of Hawaii). After serving four years, he continued in the Air Force Reserves from 1967-1969. It was during this time in the Air Force that Danny expanded his knowledge of communications and electronics. This experience led him to employment at the Indiana Bell Telephone company. He worked at IBT from 1969 to 1981, at which time he left Indiana and made Las Cruces his new home having been hired by Mountain Bell Telephone Company. Danny retired from "Ma Bell" in 2001. While working at IBT Danny met the love of his life, Diana Leist McClure. Being quite charming, intelligent, and sporting an awesome handle bar moustache, Danny won Diana's heart and they were married on March 5th, 1977, in South Bend, Indiana. Together they embarked on a wonderous journey to New Mexico and made the Land of Enchantment their forever home. Danny advanced his career in the communications industry while Diana established herself in Human Resources for General Dynamics (NASA subcontractor), retiring in 2017. Danny and Diana became avid hot air balloonists and crewed for nearly a decade. Danny had numerous hobbies throughout his retirement. In addition to caring for his beloved dogs and cats, he was an enthusiastic ham radio operator. Danny also enjoyed tinkering with the computer, experimenting with electronics, 4-wheeling, reading and taking care of his 2005 Ford pickup. Danny leaves a legacy of love. He is survived by his wife, Diana and children; Son, Gene Guy and wife, Ann, of Indiana; Daughter, Shannan Asbury and husband, Steve of Indiana; Grandchildren Alexis Asbury of Las Cruces; Brandan, Sarah, Samuel, Addison, Thomas; Sister, Thelah Mosier; Brother, Ray Freed and Wife, Judy (all of Indiana); and pets Topper, Sadie, Snickers, Nacho, and Tasha. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ted Guy. Danny wished to be cremated. Although no services will be held, condolences may be expressed at getzfuneralhome.com.
