Daniel Wasser

Daniel Gerald Wasser, Sr., age 85, passed away on May 22, 2023. Born in 1937 to Gilbert and Ruth Wasser, Dan grew up in Walworth, Wisconsin on a family-owned dairy farm. Working on the farm paved the way to Dan's exceptional gardening and landscaping skills. He served in the Army for three years and married his wife, Nancy, in 1963. Together they purchased and operated the Danan Tavern and Grocery Store for seven years and began flipping properties. Wanting to escape the cold winters of Wisconsin, Dan, Nancy, and their two children moved to Las Cruces in 1979. Dan was an entrepreneur in the truest sense. He and Nancy flourished in the property business and one of the most rewarding purchases was Old Mesilla Kennels, which they operated for 17 years. Dan had many joys throughout his life. His family was of the upmost importance, and he supported them in all their endeavors. Bowling played a major role in their lives and having a fun, competitive spirit resulted in the entire family excelling in this sport. He also took pride in his Mustang and participated in several car shows. Dan traveled the world with dear friends and had wonderful experiences in Scotland and South Africa. To no one's surprise, he was an outstanding gardener (especially growing a panorama of beautiful flowers and exceptionally large pumpkins) and was infamous for his yearly Christmas light display. Dan began this holiday tradition while living in Mesilla Park and continued to delight the public when he and Nancy moved close to Foothills Road. He was duly rewarded for his efforts, as he loved visiting with kids of all ages when they would stop to enjoy the thousands of strategically placed lights and delightful ornamental decor. His light displays will be greatly missed.



Dan is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Wasser, and his parents, Gilbert, and Ruth Wasser. He is survived by his son, Danny Wasser (Sharon Wasser) and daughter, Kris Wasser (Ray Galvan). His grandchildren include Mackenzie Zemek (Nicky Zemek), Amber Robinson, Shannon Robinson, and Tate Wasser. His great-grandchildren are Raelyn Robinson, Eleanor Zemek, and Accius Robinson. Dan is also survived by his loving companion, Carol Howard.



Cremation has taken place and a private memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
