Christopher Martin Evaro

Christopher Martin Evaro, age 56, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on April 3, 1964, at Memorial General Hospital in Las Cruces, to Margarito and Valentina Evaro of La Mesa, New Mexico. Chris was the last of five children, he lived in La Mesa until adulthood and graduated from Gadsden High School. He later moved to Pleasant Hill, California. Where he lived for many years and enjoyed a career in photography. Upon returning to New Mexico, he lived in Alamogordo for several years. After moving to Las Cruces, he decided to advance his education and earned an a Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from then Doa Ana Branch Community College. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice at New Mexico State University. He continued his education at NMSU working on a master's degree in Criminal Justice. Sadly, his failing health forced him to drop out of the program one semester short of completing work on his master's degree. During the time that he was pursuing his degrees, Chris became very active at Holy Cross Catholic Church and eventually served as sacristan for several years. He taught CCD classes at Holy Cross and served as chaperone for the St. Genevieve's Church Youth Ministry. Chris was also member of the Robert G. Gamboa Knights of Columbus Council 9527 and served as treasurer. He also was a Lay Franciscan. Chris was predeceased by his parents, his eldest brother, Arturo, and sister, Veronica Evaro Garcia. He is survived by his sister, Elvia R. Richardson and her son, James E Richardson, IV (Dusty) his wife Erica Saunders, and their children, Anjel, Madelyn and Marlee. He is also survived by his brother, Edward Evaro, his wife Lydia, their son Robin, and Robin's children. Also, surviving and much-loved, very close nieces, Veronica's daughters, Stephanie Garcia Gonzalez, her husband Roy, and their children and grandchildren; and Jennifer Garcia Reyes, her husband Santos, and their children, of Spokane, Washington. Chris is also survived by much-loved nephew. James Evaro, his wife Heidi, their son Hunter and his wife, Katherine. Also surviving is his brother-in-law, Louie Garcia, Veronica's husband, and former sister-in-law Sadie Nunez-Goldman, mother to his brother Art's sons. Further surviving are very close cousins Mary Ellen Pedraza Rios, her husband Fernie, and their children, especially Julia and grandchildren, of El Paso; Angie Pedraza and her children of Las Cruces; Rose Deham of Las Cruces; Florentino Ruiz, Jr., and Dolores Valenzuela of La Mesa; Susanna Pedraza Bonilla of El Paso; and Rachel Pedraza of Phoenix, Arizona. Services for Chris will be held Friday, March 19, 2021 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda. Recitation of the rosary will be at 10:00 am., to be followed immediately by the celebration of the Funeral Mass. Chris chose to be cremated and his ashes will be placed at a later date between his parents at San Jose Catholic Cemetery in La Mesa.
