Charles Edward Gore

October 18, 1942 — February 8, 2007

Charles Edward Gore, 64, of Delaware, Ohio died of a massive heart attack on Thursday, February 8, 2007. He was born October 18, 1942, in Baytown, Texas to Royal "Jack" Edward Gore and Grace Lewis Gore. He was a 17 year resident of Las Cruces before moving to Ohio in May 2005. Charles worked for the USDA as an agricultural statistician for 37 years, retiring in January 2002. During the time he was in Las Cruces he was responsible for the statistics for crops and livestock for the state of New Mexico. He received numerous awards from the USDA, one of which was for helping to further the education of and giving supplies to the Navajo Indian tribe. One of his passions was teaching in his career, in churches, and in other groups. He and his wife Nancy were avid speakers for MADD, turning a personal tragedy of the death of their daughter into an educational opportunity for young people. They told their story countless times to schools, churches, drivers education classes, and drunk driving offenders in order to save lives. In addition to this, Charles was very involved with the Walk to Emmaus program, the Gideons, Habitat for Humanity, Marriage Encounter, and Promise Keepers. He was a deacon in various churches for over 30 years and his passion for knowing and teaching the truths about the Scriptures was evident. He went on many mission trips to Russia, presenting the gospel and distributing humanitarian aid to orphanages, prisons, hospitals, nursing homes and other Russians in need. He is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Nancy Fennema Gore, 3 sons, Alan (Jacqueline) Gore and their children Jennifer and Joey of Powell, Ohio; Stephen (Crystal) Gore of Las Vegas, Nevada; Rob (Jamie) and their children Aubrey, Cody, and Alexander of Delaware, Ohio; daughter, Susan (Scott) Garrity and their children Hope, Sheylan, Evan, Esther, and Olivia of Glenn Dale, Maryland; granddaughter, Sarah Mouchette; sister, Dorothy Lee (Bobby) Sutton of Baytown, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Laura Lynn Gore on June 11, 1992. A visitation will be held on Thursday February 15, 2007 from 5-7 Pm at Getz Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Friday February 16, 2007 at 1 PM at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
