Charles C Brewster

Charles C. Brewster, 82, died at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM on December 28, 2018. Charles was born in Rocky Ford, CO. on April 17, 1936 to James T & Evalyn Brewster. The family moved to the Hatch Valley when Charles was 2 years old. Charles, his older brother Donald, and younger sister Laura Lee attended Garfield Grade School and Hatch Valley High School. Charles married Karma Kull 62 years ago on July 1, 1955 at Salem Baptist Church in Salem, NM. He attended NMSU for two years and worked at White Sands Missile Range for 31 years as a calibration technician. At the age of 16 Charles received the Lord as his Savoir. He and Karma raised the kids at Salem Baptist Church. He was a charter member of Valley-View Baptist Church were he was also a Sunday School teacher and deacon. For forty years he served this congregation. He liked working with young people. Each summer he directed two week long camps near Cloudcroft, NM for at-risk boys and girls. He has been Executive Director of Prison Family Services since 1992. A non-profit that helps families cope with having a family member incarcerated. Charles is survived by his wife Karma of Las Cruces; a son Steve (Linda) of Huntsville, AL; a daughter Lavada (David) of Las Cruces; a son Glenn (Laura) of Hobbs, NM and a foster daughter Sandy of Brownwood, TX. Grandchildren: Tracy Thompson (Luke) of Morton, MS; Sarah Brewster (Brandon White) of Windermere, FL; Kris Haskins (Kate) of Socorro, NM; John Haskins (Sarah) of Carrollton, TX; Curtis Haskins (Michelle) of Las Cruces, NM; Nick Fuller, Tim Brewster, and Casey Brewster of Hobbs, NM; Kevin Juanillo (Liz) of Phoenix, AZ; Nick Juanillo (Carrie) of Newark, DE; Drew Juanillo (Laura) of Abilene, TX and Kyle Juanillo of Brownwood, TX. Great-Grandchildren: Alex White, Nathaniel and Fiona Juanillo, Elija Juanillo, Lexie and Luca Juanillo, Will, Travis, and Jo Thompson. His sister, Laura Lee Peterson of Prophetstown, IL and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents James T and Evalyn Brewster and his brother Donald Brewster. Burial will be at the Garden of Memories in Hatch on Wednesday January 2nd at 10:00 AM. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM at Valley-View Baptist Church, 4175 Lavender Drive, Las Cruces, NM Arrangements are being held by Getz Funeral Home.
