Caroline Marie Hagaman John)

On November 28, 2022, Caroline Marie Hagaman passed away in her sleep. She was ninety-seven. Mother of three, Caroline is survived by her two sons Gene and Allen as well as her son-in-law Ric Caterina, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the members of the Door Christian Fellowship Church. Born November 15, 1925, to John Charles St. John and Mary Elizabeth Milliken in Silver City, New Mexico, Caroline was the youngest of four children. Caroline spent her youth in Grant County. Despite being a small child during the Great Depression, Caroline recalled happy memories traveling with her mother who taught school in the Mimbres, going to dances with her sisters in Pinos Altos, and taking care of animals at home. For Caroline, her family and her church community were the focus of her life. Rarely was her home vacant of relatives or children. To blood relatives and community members alike she was known as "grandma". She loved crocheting and crafted everything from dish scrubbers to blankets to booties. If you knew Caroline, there was a good chance that at some point she probably gifted you a crocheted dish towel or two. Word search puzzles are likely still stashed in furniture throughout her house. Until she could no longer maintain her license, one of her favorite treats for her grandchildren was a long drive with silly road songs. Dedicated to Christ, Caroline found solace and joy in her faith. Steadfast in her beliefs and her love of others, Caroline never lost hope that Christ would care for her and those she loved. For those who knew her, she was often the source of that care. From helping raise her granddaughter Melody, to buying Christmas presents for the less fortunate children at 6th Street Elementary School where she was employed in the cafeteria, Caroline was the embodiment of a good and faithful servant of Christ. Her life serves as an inspiration for all the faithful and her passing is a loss felt far and deep. Caroline is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Irene Kampf and Ruth Donaldson, brother Charles "Chaz" St. John, and daughter Terry Caterina. A memorial in her honor will be held at noon on Saturday, December 10th, 2022, at the Door Christian Fellowship Church, 1920 Peterson Dr, Silver City, NM 88061. All are welcome.
