Brook Kristovich

September 19, 1961 — July 13, 2024

Brook Kristovich passed away on July 13, 2024 after a long and amazing career in tribal housing programs. Brook was a husband, brother, father and trusted colleague. An enrolled member of the Native Village of Napaimute in Alaska, Brook always gravitated to leadership positions at tribal housing authorities as well as at national and regional tribal organizations during the bulk of his career. Brook graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Washington University in 1984.

Brook committed his career to serving the housing needs of Native Americans in Indian country. He led tribal housing programs for 30 years, and most recently, he was appointed to serve as the Director of Housing at the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo. Brook led both national and regional organizations, including serving for 20 years as the Chairman of the Board of the Northwest Indian Housing Association. Brook represented his region on the Board of Directors of the National American Indian Housing Council, served as a member of the Board of AMERIND Risk Management – and notably, was elected President of the Traditional Council at his own tribe – the Native Village of Napaimute.

Brook’s leadership was grounded in his integrity, commitment, spirituality, hard work and his vast experience in tribal housing programs. His family, colleagues and co-workers knew him as a caring and loving person who saw the good in everyone.

Brook is survived by his wife Teresa (nee Savage), his two children Caleb Kristovich and Melissa Burkey, his father, Bill, brothers Bobby and Nick, and his sisters Marcie Sherer and Shelly Leary. Teresa and Brook married in 2018 and made their home in Las Cruces. Together they share 10 children and 11 grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Services will be held at 11 am on Monday, July 22 at the Ysleta del Sur Mission Church at 131 S. Zaragosa Road, El Paso TX 79907. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation of any size to the NWIHA Youth Scholarship Program in his name, which Brook founded over 20 years ago.
