Blas H. Reyes

June 17, 1946 — May 24, 2012

Blas H. Reyes Jr., 65, of La Mesa, NM took the Lord's hand May 24th, 2012 and joined Him in His Glorious Kingdom. Blas was a beloved son, husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. He was a friend to many and a stranger to none. Blas had a personality that could brighten a room and put a smile on everyone's face. He was a Vietnam veteran who was very proud of his service for his country. Blas was always willing to help anyone who needed a hand; if he could not physically do it, he would make calls and find a way to get it done. He touched many lives and made many friends throughout his lifetime. Blas was very involved at the Veterans of Foreign Wars #4384 of Anthony, NM and also at the Lucio Moreno Vietnam Veterans of America #574 in El Paso, TX. He retired as sales representative of 26 years combined from Kwal Paint of Las Cruces and also at Sherwin-Williams of Las Cruces. He always had a way to cheer people up and make people laugh no matter the circumstance; he had quite a sense of humor. He had a mission to search for and reconnect with his Vietnam War comrades throughout the years, in which he had great success in finding his "brothers". He had such a close bond with his two cousins, Hector and Arturo Ramirez; they were there for each other no matter the situation. His beloved mother, Amelia H. Reyes, survives Blas. He is also survived by his wife of 39 years, Clara Reyes, his two daughters, Alesha Ivonne Reyes (Burbank, CA) and Anna Lisa Reyes (Denver, CO). Blas was the eldest of his surviving siblings followed by his sister, Linda Reyes (son Michael Reyes), brother, Freddy Reyes (Rosie Reyes, son-Sean Reyes), sister Beatrice Reyes-Duran (Ron Duran, son Frankie Duran) and brother, Ray Reyes. Blas is survived by his pride and joy of a grandson, Ezra Eidman (son of Anna Reyes). He loved his grandson very much and he would do anything for him. Many very loving uncles, aunts, and cousins survive him and will all miss him very much. His father, Blas Reyes Sr., his paternal grandparents Juan Reyes and Tranquelina Reyes, and maternal grandparents Salvador Holguin and Soledad "Chole" Holguin preceded him in death; also by his in-laws, Francisco and Francisca Alvarez, and by his two uncles, Antonio Valencia and Saul Holguin. Services for Blas will be held at the San Miguel Catholic Church on Monday, May 28, with visitation from 5pm to 7pm along with prayer vigil.
