Billie Roberson went to be with the Lord on June 13, 2024 at the age of 92.
Billie was born on March 19, 1932 to William and Stella Walls. She was born and grew up in Benton, Arkansas.
Billie met Robert Roberson on a blind date and they were married on October 5, 1951. They were happily married for over 70 years. Billie and Robert worked together to provide a loving home for their 6 children.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her son Dennis Roberson. She is survived by her children Tom, Benton Ark., Hope Buck (Bobby) Alamogordo, Neil (Laura) Las Cruces, Kathy Wood (Jeff) Las Cruces, Sara Watson (Jay) Midland Texas and Daughter-in-law Christina Fernandez, Las Cruces. Grandchildren Brad, Brian, Jenni, Heather, Daniel, April, Carly,Lisa, Ryan, Nikki, Kelly, Annie, Charlie and Tanner as well as 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Forrest Walls and sister Mary Lois Stanfield.
Billie graduated Salutatorian from Benton High School, Benton Arkansas. She continued singing the Benton Fight song the rest of her life. She started her college education at the Arkansas State Teacher's College. After raising her children, she continued her education at New Mexico State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Art.
Billie and Robert moved to Las Cruces in 1959 when Robert took a professorship at New Mexico State University. Billie was an excellent homemaker and her children enjoyed a warm comfortable home filled with great food. In Las Cruces they joined and were lifelong members of Calvary Baptist church. She sang in the choir as well as taught Sunday school for many years. Billie had a real talent for drawing and painting. Her children's homes are filled with Billie's beautiful paintings. Every painting she looked at she would say "I just need to work on that a little more."
In her later years she enjoyed reading (mysteries) and watching Perry Mason in the evening. Her children spent many suspense filled evenings watching it with her. She was an avid crossword, Sudoku, and crypto quips puzzle solver. She also enjoyed long drives in the Mesilla Valley with a caramel frappe.
A Memorial service celebrating Billie's life will be held Saturday July 6, 2024 at 10:30 at Getz Funeral Home 1410 East Bowman Ave. Las Cruces, New Mexico.
The family would like to thank her caregivers Nikki Roberson (granddaughter), Charlene Durgin and Michelle Gonzales for their kindness and compassion while caring for mom. We would also like to thank Isabel Acosta our mom's hairdresser, for many years of encouragement and friendship during her weekly hair appointments.
