Betty Parker Cauthorne passed away at age 92 on September 8, 2022, in Las Cruces, NM. She was a wonderful and loving mother who lived an eventful life full of art, travel, and a huge number of friends and loved ones. She will be missed by many.
Betty was born in Newport News, VA, and spent her youth in the Tidewater region by the James River and Chesapeake Bay. Her parents, Ercell and Charlie Parker, were pillars of the local community and raised her to be curious and adventurous with a love of the Atlantic Coast where she enjoyed swimming, boating, and sports.
As an adult, she married and moved across country to the southwest, where she settled and fell deeply in love with the colors, food, and culture of New Mexico. She was an accomplished painter in oil and acrylic, capturing many beautiful scenes from Virginia and New Mexico on her canvasses. She was also an avid competitive Bridge player, in which she held a Life Master certification and enjoyed teaching others. She remained in NM for most of her life, primarily in Albuquerque where she raised a family, later retiring to Santa Fe, and finally moving to Las Cruces to be near her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her son, Seth Cauthorne, and her granddaughters, Kara and Layla Cauthorne.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Friday, October 14th at St Andrews Episcopal Church in Las Cruces.
