Betty Jean Bishop

Our beloved Betty Jean (Rodriguez) Bishop went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday morning, June 24, 2020. She lost her battle with cancer in her home with family. Betty was born on February 3, 1965 to Reyna Soto and Eddie Z. Rodriguez in Fort Campbell, Kentucky where her father, served with the 101st Airborne Division. After completing his military service, the family moved to Silver City, New Mexico. She graduated from Silver High School and moved to Las Cruces in 1983 to attend New Mexico State University. Betty lived her Christian faith each day. Betty met Gilbert Bishop and married him. Betty served as President of the Bishop Roofing Company in Las Cruces for the last 16 years. Betty was a well-respected warrior leader for conservative Republican causes in Las Cruces, Doa Ana County and all of New Mexico. Her leadership will be sorely missed throughout the state. Betty was the Republican nominee for the New Mexico House of Representatives, District 35. She served as a legislative analyst for the Republican Caucus in the New Mexico House of Representatives. She served as Chair of the Doa Ana County Republican Party from August 2017 to January 2019. Her leadership included recruitment of many candidates, assistance with candidate campaigns and pro-life and second amendment causes. Betty was preceded in death by her son James F. T. Bishop. Betty is survived by her husband, Gilbert Bishop, children Joseph E. (Casandra), Gilbert G. and Elizabeth S., grandchildren, Hunter and Charlotte, her parents Reyna Soto and Eddie Z. Rodriguez. A public viewing for Betty Bishop is scheduled for the family at 4pm to 5pm and for the public from 5pm to 7pm at the Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman, Las Cruces, NM 88001.
