Bernie Munoz of Las Cruces, New Mexico passed on May 27, 2024, at the age of 66 at the Advanced Care of Southern New Mexico Hospital. He was surrounded by family including his wife of 31 years Maria Munoz, their daughter Lisa Munoz and Son in Law James B. Collier. Bernie was born in El Paso, Texas on November 15, 1957, to Bernabe and Amparo Munoz. He was the third child of six. He is survived by his older Brother Dr. Robert Munoz, Sister Barbara, brothers Stephen, Victor, Matthew, and honorary brother Michael Ybarra.

Bernie was a graduate of Bel Air High School in El Paso Texas, class of 1975. Where he was an active member of the Key Club and played various sports including Baseball. After graduation he joined the US. Navy to serve his country and see the world. He served 20 years on various nuclear submarines. Where he reached the rank of Radio Man Chief Petty Officer E7. Bernie retired with honors from the Navy in August 1995. He went on to work 20 plus years for the United States Postal Service.

Bernie met his wife Maria in San Diego, California and they married November 15, 1993, after which Bernie joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Bernie had 3 children, a son Geoffrey Scott Munoz (from previous marriage), a daughter Lisa Munoz, and a son Joseph Munoz-(late). Bernie was an avid animal lover, especially of dogs. He is survived by his two little fur babies Daisy and Maisy Munoz. Bernie was also a member of the Las Cruces chapter of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and enjoyed volunteering, especially if serving fellow veterans. Bernie also enjoyed nature and loved seeing America, traveling in his RV.

Bernie was a hard worker and a beloved member of the community. His loss will be felt by all who knew him.

A Memorial will be held on June 25, 2024, from 11am-1pm at the Elks Lodge #1119 at 3000 Elks Dr. Las Cruces, NM 88005. Lunch will be served after the Honor Guard Presentation at 12pm. The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out during this difficult time. Thank you for keeping us in your Prayers.
