Benjamin Chavarria

Benjamin C. Chavarria 95 years old, passed away peacefully at his home in Las Cruces, NM on September 30, 2021.

Benjamin C. Chavarria was born in Rincon, New Mexico to Abel and Consuelo Chavarria on May 23, 1926. He went to school in Hatch, He then met and married Maria Lucinda Carreras on Dec 31, 1950 in Rodey, N.M at the parish of St. Francis de Sales. He was a veteran of WWII. Benny served in the army 1st Calvary Div. as an Cannoneer, during the occupation of Forces in Japan.

Benny is proceeded in death by parents Abel and Consuelo B. Chavarria, siblings Eugene Chavarria, Bertha Chavarria Torres, Ricardo Chavarria, Maria Chavarria Berkheimer, Gilbert Chavarria, Eddy Chavarria and his son Benjamin C. Chavarria Jr.

Benny is survived by Wife Lucy Chavarria, Children, Son Abel Chavarria, daughters Erlinda Perla Chavarria and Belinda Chavarria Smith, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Benny retired from White Sands Missile range and spent majority of his life as a farmer in the Hatch Valley.

Services will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 starting with a gathering of Friends and Family at 5:00pm followed by a Rosary at 6:00pm. A Memorial Mass will be held the following morning Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Our Lady of Purification in Dona Ana at 10 AM, with Military Honors to follow.
