Benjamin C. Abeyta Sr.

Benjamin C. Abeyta Sr, 79, of Dona Ana, NM died Thursday June 30, 2011. Ben as he was fondly known was born Sept. 18, 1931 in Dona Ana, NM to Ramon and Sara Abeyta. Ben was a veteran of the US Army where he served our country honorably during the Korean Conflict. He also was retired from WSMR after many years of faithful service. Ben was a member of Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, but his passion was for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Ben is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Paula Abeyta of the family home; daughters Patricia Abeyta of Las Vegas, NV and Celina Abeyta-Barry and husband Mark of Dallas, TX; son Ben Abeyta and wife Tina of Las Cruces; grandchildren Richard, Jarek, Caelan, Isaiah, Jake, Gabrielle, Alec and by his great-granddaughter Alyssa. Also surviving him are his sisters Emma Misquez of Dona Ana, Rosa Olsen of Las Cruces, Alice Baca of Los Lunas, NM and by a brother Lupe Abeyta and wife Gloria of Las Cruces. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ramon and by an infant sister Emma. A visitation will be held from 8:30 am to 9:30 am on Tuesday July 5, 2011 at Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church in Dona Ana, NM with a prayer vigil to follow at 9:30 am. Ben's funeral mass to celebrate his life will begin following the prayer vigil. The US Army and the Devil Dogs Marine Corps League will provide military honors. Rite of Committal for his remains will be held at a later date at the Dona Ana Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
