Barbara Ann O'Donnell

Barbara Ann O'Donnell 67 passed away on April 28, 2005 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 3, 1938 to Edward and Elizabeth McNally in Camden, NJ. She married Chuck O'Donnell on May 18,1963. They had two children in New Jersey and moved to Las Cruces in 1969. She worked at Safeway as a checker and then went on to work for Furr's where she retired in 1996 at the age of 58. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and courageously battled the disease for 9 years. She was always so positive about her illness and kept her family together until the very end. The disease may have taken her body from us but her generous loving spirit will always be with us. She made friends with everybody no matter where she was and never had a negative thing to say. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was always a pleasure to be around. We find our comfort in knowing that there is truly a special place in heaven for her. Barbara is survived by her two sisters Edna Stivaly and husband Willie of Nichols NY, Bonnie Jernick and husband Joe of Mt. Bethel PA. Aunt Helen Froehlich, Uncle Walt Sorchik, and Uncle Ben and wife Helen Sorchik of PA. Many nieces and nephews. Husband Chuck O'Donnell of the family home. A son Chuck Jr. and daughter Colleen Preece of Las Cruces. Also survived by granddaughter Crystal Preece and boyfriend Travis Beasley and grandson Steven Preece of Las Cruces. She is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Elizabeth. Her family would like to give special thanks to everyone who shared in their time of sorrow by helping with their kind words and prayers. Mesilla Valley Hospice was great especially Julie Phillips who showed such kindness and helped to put their minds at ease. Visitation will be Monday May 2, 2005 from 4pm-6pm at Getz Funeral Home where her funeral services will follow at 6pm with a dear friend Rev. Gene Jameson officiating.
