Arthur Johnson

Arthur G. Johnson born August 31, 1933, in Las Cruces, New Mexico was a lifelong resident of Mesilla Park, New Mexico and passed peacefully away September 4, 2024, at La Posada Hospice in Las Cruces, NM with family by his side.

Arthur was the son of Frank and Grace Guzman Johnson. He was a graduate of Las Cruces High School where he met the love of his life, the late Lilyan Winifred (Windy) Miller Johnson, to whom he had been married for 65 years. 

Arthur was a rancher, farmer, Army Veteran and worked for over 40 years at El Paso Electric Company, home of then, (Redi-Kilowatt). He began his career as a meter reader and worked up the ranks where he retired at the age of 55 as Supervisor, Underground Transmission. Arthur went on to consult for El Paso Electric for several more years. He was active in multiple civic duties including the Dona Ana and Sierra County Sherriff’s posse in which he had several leadership roles and was President during the mid-1970’s. He was also an Alumni Member of Las Cruces High School FFA and took pride in ranching, raising livestock and quarter horses. 

Arthur is survived by sons Art (Elizabeth) Johnson of Las Cruces, NM, Bill (Lisa) of Carlsbad, NM; and Larry (Glenda) Hobbs, NM. Grandchildren: Amanda Weldy; Ty Johnson, Justin Johnson, Michael Johnson; Randi Valverde, Cori Filosa, Kameryn Baker and 10 great grandchildren. He is survived by sisters Jane (Narcisco) Gonzalez, Liz Rosales, Mary Lou De La Rosa, Emma (Gus) Ortiz along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank and Grace Johnson, sisters Mabel Morales, Lucy Portillo and brother Frankie Johnson.

We would like to thank Memorial Medical, UMC Medical in El Paso and Three Crosses Hospital. We are also indebted to D'Shawn Cline and her team, along with all the outstanding nurses and entire staff at Mesilla Valley Hospice. 

Celebration of life to be held at Getz Funeral Home on Thursday, September 12th, 2024. Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. with services beginning promptly at 10:00 a.m. Military burial will follow where he will be laid to rest at Masonic Cemetery located at 760 S. Compress Road in Las Cruces. Thank you to our Pallbearers Justin Johnson, Ty Johnson, Josh Switer, Joseph Gonzales, David Alvillar and Jim T. Martin.
