Angie Gomez, Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow, that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Angie Vega Gomez, who went to meet our Lord on April 5th, 2025. Angie passed away peacefully at the age of 94, in her home surrounded by her loving family in Derry, New Mexico.

Angie is survived by her daughter - Linda Gomez of Derry; son - Manuel Gomez and wife Mari of Las Cruces; brothers - Jesus Vega Jr., Eloy Vega, Venancio Vega and Roger Vega; grandchildren - Erick Gomez and Michael Gomez.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jesus J. Gomez, her parents Mena Vega and Jesus Vega, and brothers - Remijio Vega, Leo Vega, and sister- Aurora Cordova.

Angie was born in Rodey, but lived in Derry, attending school at the Derry School House. She later worked several years at the local general stores, and Post Office. She was also the bookkeeper and accountant for her late father’s, Jesus Vega, farm business. Angie had beautiful cursive hand writing and was often asked to write business letters for her father and others.

In the latter years, Angie was a loving wife and business partner (Hatch Valley Chile), right alongside her husband Jesus, while also being a devoted Mom to Linda and Manny.

All who knew Angie witnessed her boundless love and selflessness. Angie always prioritized her family needs above all else, providing comfort and guidance during challenging times. Her love and dedication were endless.

Mom’s “golden years” as a grandmother, brought her immense joy and happiness! She showered her grandsons, Mike and Erick, whom she affectionately called “her pollitos”, with much love and care, creating many cherished memories we will treasure forever.

Beyond being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Angie was a dear friend to many in the community often sharing long conversations with her “friends/comadres” over the phone. Her love and kindness touched many lives, often offering help and support when needed. Her mere presence brought a certain comfort and strength to family and friends.

Services for our beloved mother will be on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 in San Isidro Catholic Church, Loma Parda St. in Garfield NM. Visitation begins from 9:00-10:00, Rosary will be at 10:00, funeral mass will be celebrated thereafter at 10:45. The rite of committal and interment will follow in the Hatch Cemetery Garden of Memories, where she will be laid to rest next to our Dad.

We are very grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support, from our family and friends. Let us remember “Angie” with smiles on our faces and the great love she had for all of us! And in her words, “Dios los Bendiga!”
