Andrew Thomas Wiles, age 73, passed on Tuesday, Jan 7, 2025 at Blue Horizon Memory Care. Andy was born on July 9, 1951 to Alice Wolph Wiles and Thomas Harold Wiles. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Jorgensen Wiles, his mother Alice, two younger brothers Curtis and Craig, two loving sons Grant (Kara) and Justin (Jessica) and five grandchildren.
Andy was born and spent his early childhood on a farm in Boone, Iowa before moving with his family to Fort Dodge, where he loved the opportunities he had in a larger town. He played baseball all through junior and high school as first baseman. Following high school, he completed one year of college. In 1970, finding himself “fortunate” to be #1 in the military draft, Andy enlisted in the US Air Force.
Andy married Bonnie Jorgensen of Webster City, Iowa, in 1972. They moved to New Mexico in 1974 where they reared their family, working hard and loving their community. He took the opportunity to finish his education, graduating from NMSU with a degree in Soil Science. His education led to a long and rewarding career working for CalCompac Foods as a chile researcher. He absolutely loved his 37-year career that offered him travels, challenges, awards, and many good relationships.
Andy’s love of sports kept him involved either as a coach or player throughout his life. When the boys were young, he loved coaching their baseball and soccer teams. He learned racquetball in college and kept it up for decades. He loved playing baseball and softball on adult leagues. In recent years he learned and loved to play pickleball.
He was an avid drag racer. Andy built and restored many cars that can only be appreciated by fellow MoPar fans. He was part of a close-knit racing community for many years. His boys inherited their love for sports, adventures, and fast cars from their dad. Andy was truly a great friend to all who knew him, including Bonnie’s professional colleagues and many quilting and reading friends.
Bonnie and boys would like to thank the staff at Blue Horizon Memory Care for their loving care of Andy these last months. A memorial service will be held at Getz Funeral Home on Thursday January 16th, 2024 at 10:00 am.
