Amparo 'Mapayo' Valdez

Amparo Valdez, 77 of Anthony, New Mexico died Saturday, March 12, 2011 in El Paso, Texas. Amparo, or better known as "Mapayo" to her grandchildren, was born to Donaciano Montoya and Gertrudis Moncada on October 25, 1933 in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico. Mapayo was a devoted parishioner at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, involved with the Communion Ministry, and with her "comunidad." It was also well known that you never left her house hungry. Her signature dishes were her salsas and rice that will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family was her greatest pride and joy. She recently celebrated her 60th anniversary with her husband, Demetrio "Peepa" Valdez. Together they had four children. Maria Perez and husband Jose Luis of Las Vegas, NV; Demetrio "Concho" Valdez Jr. and companion Martha Alvarado of Las Cruces, NM; Yolanda Gonzalez and husband Hector, and Rosa Valdez Cisneros all from Anthony, NM. She is survived by thirteen brothers and sisters, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mapayo is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Socorro, Estefana, brother Francisco, a daughter Rosa Delia, who died at birth and her grandson, Joey "Choie" Perez. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 from 5:00 -6:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Anthony, NM, followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be given on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with rite of committal to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Officiating will be Father Andres Alava and Father Juan Almarza. Pallbearers honoring Mapayo's life will be Ricardo Perez, Andrew Perez, Demetrio "Bansai" Valdez III, Hector Gonzalez, Jorge Montoya, and Jose Luis Perez. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandson Daniel Cisneros, and great grandsons Thomas Hartwell and Jeshuah Beck. PDF Printable Version
