Alfredo G. Barrio

Alfred (Fido) G. Barrio, 78, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2005 at Mesilla Valley Hospice. Born in Las Cruces, NM on May 9, 1926, he was born to Alfredo Barrio and Maria Grijalva Barrio. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and the United States Air force during the United States occupation of Germany. He returned to Las Cruces and was employed as a Firefighter/ Fire Inspector for 25 years. He retired in May 1986. He was active in the VFW Post 3242 where he served as Chaplain. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Genevieve Garcia Barrio, his children Susan B. Portillo, Dora B. Lujan, Anita B. Martinez (Israel), Rita B. Sanchez (Tony), Alfred G. Barrio III (Connie), Miguel A. Barrio, and Consuelo G. Barrio. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, brother Francisco Barrio and sisters, Eva Garvey, Pat Gutierrez, Elfida Rubio and Gloria Gonzales. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 PM on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 at Getz Funeral Home where the Rosary will follow at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass is at 10:00 AM Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church with Fr. Ron Burke officiating. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery, located at 760 S. Compress Rd. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E. Montana, Las Cruces, NM 88005 (505) 523-4700 or a Veterans organization of choice.
