Alex-Andrew Ortiz Vazquez

Private First Class Alex-Andrew Ortiz Vazquez, 22, left Earth on May 10, 2011, to be with Jesus in Heaven. Alex was a medic with the New Mexico Army National Guard, 1-200 Infantry, HHC, in Las Cruces, NM. Alex had made the decision to serve his country in this capacity, and his commitment was evident in how he carried out his duties. Alex took great pride in being a soldier. He also took great pride in his family, especially his nephews. He loved to attend family gatherings and to spend lots of time with his siblings and cousins. Alex was always a very loving person, caring very deeply for everyone with whom he was acquainted. His family and friends return this love, and he will be deeply missed. Alex is survived by his father, Alejandro Vazquez, of Las Cruces, NM; mother Yolanda Ortiz, of Las Cruces, NM ; sister Angelica Herrera (and husband Joshua)of Las Cruces, NM; brother Adam Moralez (and wife Sarah) also of Las Cruces, NM; sister Evangelina Etsitty (and husband Virgil) of Rio Rancho, NM; nephews Rylan Niemann, Dante Moralez, Tyler Max Etsitty, and Nathan Etsitty; maternal grandmother Elvira Ortiz of Las Cruces, NM; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.Alex is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Magdaleno Ortiz; his paternal grandparents Catarina Ramirez and Julio Vazquez, and his niece, Zahrya Vazquez-Herrera. A visitation will be held from 6-7 pm on Sunday May 15, 2011 with a prayer vigil to follow at 7 pm at Getz funeral Home. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 am on Monday May 16, 2011 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Moreno officiating. Rite of committal will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joshua Herrera, Mathew, Gabriel and Timothy Ortiz, Virgil Etsitty and Sgt. Antonio Noriega. Honorary pallbearers are, Eric Herrera, Marcus Ortiz, Jesus Kirker, Michael Ortiz and Arturo Ortiz. PDF Printable Version
