Albert (Al) Chavez, 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024. He is survived by his children: Albert Jr., Michael, and Khristie. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Ann Chavez, his father, Henry Chavez Sr, his brother Hugo Chavez and his brother-in-law Ernesto Sierra.
Al was a devoted grandfather who cherished his time with his grandchildren: Kimberly, Albert III, Jacob, Jennifer, and Jasper, children of Albert and Teresa; Zachary, Ian, Gemma, Michael Jr., Isaiah, Gianna, Givanna, Micha, and Rick, children of Michael and Joellen; Caleb and Marcus, children of Khristie and Hector. Al had 6 great grandchildren: Aaliyah, Gustavo Albert, Jacob Jr, Albert IV, Riley and Eva. All his grandchildren were his pride and joy, and their memories of him will be treasured forever.
During his career, Al served with dedication in various roles, starting with the U.S. Forest Service in Oregon, Arizona, and New Mexico. In Las Cruces, he worked as a Correctional Officer and later as a Corporal at the Doña Ana Sheriff’s Department. He then transitioned to the Bureau of Land Management, where he served as a Ranger and later as a Mineral Specialist before his retirement.
Al found joy in many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, playing the trumpet, and treasure hunting at flea markets, estate sales, and garage sales, where he loved bargaining for the best deals. Al will be remembered as a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a cherished friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
