Samuel "Sammy" Fajardo Gonzalez passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. Sammy as he was known to everyone was born in Hatch, NM to Antonio (Tony) Gonzalez and Arcelia Fajardo. He was raised on his dad's ranch and farm, where his father and grandfather Thomas taught him how to be a pretty good cowboy. He was a very good roper. Sammy was very proud of his father who was a Dona Ana County Deputy and Sheriff as well. Sammy graduated from Hatch Valley High School. After high school he joined the US Navy in 1968 and was assigned t a gunship and sent to Vietnam. He served 1 year of "Combat Duty" and received the award for Republic of Vietnam Service Award, Republic of Vietnam with one Bronze Star, Presidential Unit Certification and National Defense Award. Upon his return from military service, he was awarded Colonel Aide de Camp by the Governor David Cargor. He was very proud of his military service. He then attended WNMU in Silver City for 2 years and NMSU for 1 year after his military service. Sammy worked for EBID (Elephant Butte Irrigation District) for 36 years. Sammy was a descendant of Spanish Explorers who lived in the 1500's in Northern New Mexico. He was also very proud of his heritage. Sammy is survived by his sister Rosemary Luchini Gonzalez and husband Michael Myers, sister Sarah Sue Lucero and husband Gilbert of Leasburg, NM; brother and best friend Errol Joe Gonzalez and wife Lala Sanchez Gonzalez of Garfield, NM; as well as the love of his life soul mate and the best companion anyone would want Suwanee Sue Higgins, his stepdaughter Tiki Higgins and step granddaughter Tiffany Smiset. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Tony and Arcelia, paternal grandparents Thomas Gonzalez and Rosa Maria Luchini, maternal grandparents Sam Fajardo and Juanita Jaramillo, older brother Antonio (Tony) Gonzalez, sister-in-law Mary Esther Hinojosa Gonzalez, Nephews Joseph Samuel Gonzalez, and Michael Gonzalez Castro. Services are scheduled at San Isidro Catholic Church in Garfield NM on May 31, 2022 beginning at 10:00 am. Sammy's wishes were to buried between his mom and dad. Honorary Pallbearer will be primo Banegas. Service Information
