Rolland Rimar

November 28, 1933 — May 20, 2018

Rolland Rimar passed away on Sunday, 20 May 2018, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife Carol Jean of Las Cruces; son Peter, daughter-in-law Koh, and grandson Aaron; son Andrew, daughter-in-law Jutta, and grandchildren Daniel and Lucas; and brother Allain and his two children, Tiffany and Aaron. The son of Eugene and Mafalda Rimar was born in Samois-sur-Seine, France in 1933. In 1939, his family relocated to Turkey on the eve of World War II. As a boy, Rolland also lived in Aleppo, Syria. After the war, his family relocated back to Turkey after a brief stay in Lebanon. From Turkey, Rolland joined his family in the United States - immigrating in 1958. In 1959, he joined the US Air Force (USAF) - serving almost 25 years before his retirement as a Master Sergeant in 1984. Not long after joining the USAF, he began a family. In 1961, he married Carol Jean Mullenix of Wabash, Indiana, while stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas. In 1962, Allan (Peter) was born; and in 1968, Andrew. After his military career, he moved to Las Cruces and worked for Memorial Medical Hospital until his second retirement at the end of 1998. Unable to sit still, he volunteered his time in the field as part of the Bureau of Land Management's archeology team until he was 80. Rolland was an uncomplicated man who truly enjoyed life to fullest. He enjoyed his family, the outdoors, traveling, reading, good wine, good food, and cooking. Especially cooking. Anyone who knew Rolland knew his cooking prowess. His long adventure is now over, and he will be sorely missed. We were lucky to have him as a husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend; and to share in his adventurous life. Rolland will be interned at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, 25 May 2018, at 0900 mountain time. Condolences can be sent to his family at 3606 Arroyo Verde Street, Las Cruces, New Mexico, 88011. Memorials can be made to a charity of your choice or the Mesilla Valley Hospice.
