Margaret Jane Finnie

Margaret Finnie, 84, of Las Cruces passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014. Margaret was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. She graduated high school at the age of 15 and wanted to pursue a career in nursing, but she was too young to attend nursing school. She got a job as an information operator for Belt Atlantic Telephone. Marge married George Meyer in June, 1951 and lived in Little Ferry, New Jersey. Marge became a Brownie troop leader and was a member of the Lady Foresters. After her husband passed away, she re-entered the work force for New Jersey Bell Telephone and was promoted to information operator supervisor. She married Bill Finnie in March of 1988 and moved to Las Cruces in 1991. Marge and Bill became members of the Elks Lodge and enjoyed cooking many a Friday night dinner at the Lodge. Marge was diagnosed with colon cancer and underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments and was cancer-free for the last ten years. Bill passed away in 2000 and Marge kept busy with crocheting Afghans for friends, family and for various charity events. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and lived at Casa Bella Residential Facility for more than three years. Marge is survived by her nephew, Bruce Schwetje of Naples, Florida; her nephew Glenn Schwetje and wife, Patricia of Goshen, New York; her niece, Edna Raspantini and husband, Tony of Las Cruces, New Mexico; stepdaughter Pam Hanes and husband, Larry of Florence, Colorado; and stepson Michael Finnie of California. Cremation will take place and she will be interned with her first husband, George Meyer, at Maple Grove Park in Hackensack, New Jersey. No local services are planned.
