Juana Viramontes Holguin, 95, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born in 1921, the youngest of 16, to Pablo and Desideria Viramontes in La Unin, NM. Juana graduated 8th grade from Gadsden Schools unable to pay for both school books and school bus fare for high school. She worked since the age of 16, mostly at a cannery in Anthony, TX, which would later become Old El Paso Co. and, upon her marriage became a farmer's wife, homemaker and mom. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David Holguin, Sr., three sons, David Jr., Roberto, and Alberto Holguin, her 8 siblings who reached adulthood, Jose Viramontes Sr., Maria Alba Anita Viramontes, Pablo Viramontes Sr., Altagracia Mora, Ramn Viramontes, and Francisco Viramontes, along with many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughter, Carmen (Paul) Gomez, son Eduardo (Lucille) Holguin, 3 daughters-in-law, Dolores, Mary, and Margie Holguin. Also surviving her are 9 grandchildren; Beatriz (Henry) Avalos, Berna (Jerry) Acosta, Angie (Tom) Osborn, Mary (Tim) McAlister, David (Brandy) Holguin, Chris Holguin, Tricia (Louie) Reyes, Ana Lucia Holguin, and Sergio Armando (Tara) Holguin, along with 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family greatly appreciates the caring efforts of Comfort Keepers Kimberly Maria, Tania, and Isabel along with the entire staff at Memorial Medical Center who tended to her needs for her last days. Rosary for Juana will be from 1pm to 1:30 pm on May 23, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. Mass will follow immediately. Interment will be at Masonic Cemetery.
