Janie Davis Floyd, 86, of Las Cruces, died peacefully at home, May 31, 2016. She was born on July 10, 1929 in Fort Worth, Texas to Frank G. and Ruth Christopher Davis. She grew up during the depression in Polytechnic, Texas which is now a part of Fort Worth. She left many friends and family there when her late husband John W. Floyd moved the family to Las Cruces in 1958. When she was first told of the prospective move, she said "Las Cruces What?" The Las Cruces area quickly grew on her and became her beloved home. Janie was an avid golfer and participated in many golf tournaments all over the region. She was also an accomplished private pilot and her favorite airplane was "Big Bird," a Bellanca Super Viking with Big Bird painted on the tail. Janie was a longtime member of the 99's women's flying organization. She loved to travel, dance, paint and socialize. She was also connected to the land title industry, participating in the ownership of Las Cruces Abstract & Title Co., Luna County Abstract & Title, Hidalgo County Abstract Company, Grant County Abstract & Title, and title companies in Midland and McAllen, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, John W. Floyd; her grandson, Christopher L. Floyd; and her sisters, Frances Davis and Mary Ann Gault (Melvin). She is survived by her sons: James D. Floyd (Nohemi), Guy W. Floyd (Carla), and Gregg C. Floyd (Beverly), her grandchildren: Janie Gamboa (Ben), Alexandra Gutierrez (Francisco), Guy Wesley Floyd (Rachel), Leah Oglesby (Aaron), Jasmine Floyd, John C. Floyd, James C. Floyd (Vanessa-fianc), and great-grandchildren: Gracie Gutierrez and Andrew Gutierrez. A Visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016, at Getz Funeral Home at 8:30 - 9:30 am. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, located at 518 N Alameda Blvd, Las Cruces, NM. Burial will follow the funeral service at Masonic Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers, will be her children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to El Caldito Soup Kitchen and/or Mesilla Valley Hospice. Many heartfelt thanks to her amazing caregivers during her last years with us, and to the parishioners from St. Andrews that visited Janie for spiritual support and brought her flowers.
