James William Womack

James William Womack James William Womack passed away peacefully at home January 10, 2019, the day of his 59th wedding anniversary, surrounded by family and close friends. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Valerie, and his children, Deborah Baldwin and husband Rick, Lisa Womack, and James Womack and wife Robin; his grandchildren, Justin Baldwin and wife Sarah, Chase Baldwin, Mikala Womack, Nathan and Lainey Womack; his sister Martha Rogers; and his numerous nieces and nephews. Born January 27, 1941 to Harold and Gladys Womack in Harrison, AR, Jim attended Rogers High School, Hendrix College, and New Mexico State University after marrying his high school sweetheart. Upon completion of a degree in Electrical Engineering, he enjoyed several positions with Sperry Utah, Raytheon Company, and NASA, where he trained astronauts on the Command Module Simulator in preparation for future lunar landings. He finally returned with his wife and two new daughters to Las Cruces, New Mexico, in 1969 where he would work for Raytheon Co. at White Sands Missile Range for 39 years, most notably focusing his work in areas of research and development of the Patriot missile system. Shortly after returning to Las Cruces, Jim and Val had their third child, and Jim obtained his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at NMSU. Jim enjoyed turning a wrench, replacing many clutches in his life, electronics, programming and wood working. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids, camping with them in the mountains, boating, water skiing and fishing. He is remembered for his honesty, his sense of humor, and his love for family and friends. Services in honor of Jim will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 225 W. Griggs, Las Cruces, NM 88005, on January 21, 2019 at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are with Getz Funeral Home 1410 E. Bowman Ave., Las Cruces NM 88001.
