Jack Clarence Sutherlin Jr.

Jack C. Sutherlin Jr. 82, passed away peacefully August 2, 2023. Born December 18, 1940 in Santo Tomas to Clarance and Francys Sutherlin. He was the oldest son and sibling to Nancy and Kenny. Jack dedicated his entire life to farming and was known as one of the most successful Pecan farmers in the Mesilla Valley. Jack was a member of the Las Cruces High School class of 1958 and following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army. He served from 1958 to 1961 with the High Security Unit as a Cryptographer in West Germany. In 1962 Jack was united in marriage to Sally Holmes Sutherlin. Together they built their lives here in Las Cruces where they raised four children, Lestra, Sharon, Jill, and Mark. Jack was a member of many organizations through his years of dedication to the Pecan industry and the community of Las Cruces, New Mexico. A few were the Lions Club, FFA, Pecan Growers Association, Board member of 4 points Cotton Gin, and S.W.I.G. Pecan. Hobbies include reading, bird watching, dancing, and Dallas cowboy football. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Sally of 61 years, children Lestra, Sharon, and Jill. Brother and sister-in-law Ernie and Janice Holmes. Grandchildren Sarina, Mich, and Rylea, Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews, special friends Jennifer and Tom and their children Kyley, Kelsey, Kieran, and Aurie, and a host of many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Mark. The family requests no memorials. Jack will be honored Monday, August 14 with a gathering for friends at 9:00 a.m. and service at 10:00 a.m. at Getz Funeral home. Graveside service and Military Honors will follow at Hillcrest cemetery. Service Information
