Isabel Jiron Romero

Isabel J. Romero, 99 years old, passed away on September 22, 2021, in Laredo, Texas. On September 30th, Father Richard Catanach officiated at the funeral of Isabel Romero. Viewing of the body took place at 1:00 p.m., the Rosary at 1:30 p.m. and the funeral mass at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The burial will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico on October 26, 2021. Isabel was born August 13, 1922, in Catron County, New Mexico to Florentino Jiron and Tomasita Aragon. Isabel is preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Dr. Rutilio Romero, her son Martin Romero and her siblings Florentino Jr., David Jiron (Annie), Telesfora Martinez (Octaviano), Ferminita Sanchez (Filbert), Ernesto Jiron (Shella), Arthur Jiron (Ruth), Sam Jiron, Tomasita {Tommie} Jiron. Also, her father-in-law Reyes Romero, her mother-in-law Mary Higgins Romero, and sister-in-law Elizabeth Armijo (Richard). She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Otero and Regina Martin, her daughter-in-law, Vivian Heller; her grandchildren Matthew Otero (Betty), Laura Lynn Otero (Ernie), Michael Otero (Rosa), Timothy Romero, Marisa Tomison (Kenneth), Vanessa Richardson, Danelle Alaniz (Rey), Alexis Green (Chris), twenty great grandchildren and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. Isabel was raised in Aragon, New Mexico, and resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and spent the last 8 years of her life in Laredo, Texas. Isabel graduated from Reserve High School, and Albuquerque Business College. She worked collaboratively alongside her husband, Dr. Rutilio Romero in his Chiropractic practice and in his self-improvement, courses conducted throughout the country and in Mexico. Isabel was part of the Cursillo Movement at Saint Anne's Catholic Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After moving to Las Cruces, she became a volunteer office manager at Casa de Peregrinos, and a volunteer for Saint Vincent de Paul in Las Cruces New Mexico. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church for over 40 years. Isabel lived a long, interesting life and she did it "her way." She was an example to her children and grandchildren on being a strong minded, independent individual. Pallbearers were Matthew Otero, Tim Romero, Ernie Hill, Rey Alaniz, Chris Green, and Cade Alaniz. The Romero family would like to thank Dr. Luis Benavidez and his staff for their excellent care of Isabel, the nurses, and staff from Nurses on Wheels Hospice for their support, and all the health care workers from APC Home Health Care who took care of her through the years in Laredo and became her friends.
