JEANNE SLOAN CLAYSHULTE, 84, beloved mother and grandmother, died Monday, September 14, 2015 at her Mesilla home after a long illness. She was born Wilma Jeanne Sloan on January 5, 1931 in La Mesa, New Mexico, to Dorothy Furst Sloan and James A. Sloan of La Mesa and grew up on the family farm there. She graduated from what is now Gadsden High School and attended New Mexico State University. She married John K. "Tuffy" Clayshulte October 5, 1950, in Silver City, and they resided their entire married life in Mesilla. For many years she supported her husband in his honey-producing and pecan businesses. He preceded her in death in 2008. They were the parents of five children, who all survive her: John (Kathy), Marshall (Janet Correll) and Nelson (Carolyn) Clayshulte, all of Mesilla, and daughters Rene Kimball (Jim Boulton) of Albuquerque and Madeline Clayshulte of Las Cruces. She also is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her brothers Mike Sloan of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Frank Sloan of La Mesa. She was preceded in death by her brothers J. R. "Bill" Sloan and Mack Sloan. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, September 18, 2015 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements have been made by Getz Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice.
