Georgia Arnold

Georgia Miriam Cothern Arnold, 92, was called home on Friday, September 15, 2017 at home in Fairacres, New Mexico. She was born on November 12, 1924 in Childress, Texas to Lillian Bell Norman and Roy Willard Cothern, her sibling include; Leo Whatley Cothern, Ruby Lee Cothern May, Wilford Clifton Cothern, Harold Thomas Cothern, Vivian Juanice Cothern Clay, Norma Beth Cothern Girffin-Keeler, and Jody Cothern Fristoe-Schnitzer. Georgia was a graduate of Las Cruces Union High School class of 1941. She was a descendant of the both the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of the Republic of Texas. On Valentine's Day, February 14, 1944 she was married to Joseph Hartful "Jay" Arnold in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was a co-partner with her husband, Jay, in developing Arnold Farms. Georgia was a caregiver to both her mother Lillian, and her mother-in-law, Alma Arnold. She also loving cared for her husband Jay in their later years. Her main enjoyment in life centered around her family, both the extended Cothern and Arnold family members. She was a consummate mother and a wonderful cook, she won multiple awards for her pecan pie. Georgia was a member of First Baptist Church of Las Cruces, New Mexico for as long as she was able. She is survived by her daughter Susan Gail Arnold Jesinsky, and husband Dennis of Waco, Texas, sons, Gary Vaughn Arnold, Philip Brian Arnold and wife Wanda and daughter in law, Mary Terese Salopeck Arnold all of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Granddaughter, Amber Elizabeth Jesinsky Morgan and husband Nicholas, Great-Daughter, Alexandria Gabrielle Morgan of Waco, Texas; Granddaughter, Nicole Marie Arnold Scott and husband Bryan , great Grandson, Zane Jay Scott and Great-Granddaughter, Lana Georgia Scott of Liberty Hill, Texas; Grandson, Jacob Thomas Arnold and wife Melissa, Great-Granddaughter, Aubrie Rose Arnold and Great-Grandson, Jayce Dylan Arnold of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Granddaughter, Tami Lynn Nelson McGehee and husband David of Littlefield, Texas; Grandson, Philip Naaman Campbell of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Great-Granddaughter Meritt Lain McGehee and Mallie Lynn McGehee of Littlefield, Texas; Grandsons, Joel Luke Arnold and Jay Thomas Arnold both of Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay, her youngest son, Joel Mark Arnold, and her only great great grandchild, Austin Sean Williams McGehee. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, September 21, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 106 S. Miranda St. Las Cruces, New Mexico. Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery. A reception will be held at New Mexico Farm and Ranch Museum at 12 pm, 4100 Dripping springs Road, Las Cruces, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Las Cruces or the charity of your choice.
