Florencio H. Hernandez

July 2, 1904 — January 10, 2005

Florencio H. Hernandez Sr., 100 years old of Mesilla, NM died peacefully at his home on Monday January 10, 2005. Florencio was born July 2, 1904 in Ft. Davis, Texas to Albino and Tomasa Hernandez. While growing up in Ft. Davis, Florencio was a cowboy with different ranches and also helped to construct the McDonald Observatory. In 1941 he moved to the Mesilla Valley and worked as foreman on several different farms. Florencio was a member of the Sacred Heart League and a devote member of San Albino Catholic Church in Mesilla. He kept every one of his children in line but he will be dearly missed by every one of them. Florencio is survived by four sons, Henry A Hernandez and his wife Tina of Copperas Cove, TX; Tomas A. Hernandez and his wife Ofelia; Florencio Hernandez Jr.; and Albino A. Hernandez and his wife Margaret all of Las Cruces, NM. Three daughters, Lucy H. Carabajal of Las Cruces, NM; Mary H. Clark and her husband Lonnie of Corpus Christi, TX, and Esther H. Geck and her husband Ralph of Mesilla, NM. 33 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years Maria, a granddaughter, Leonor Quesada, and a son in law, Ramon Carabajal. At the families request, cremation has taken place and a prayer vigil followed by a memorial funeral liturgy will be at 9:00 AM on Friday, January 14, 2005 at San Albino Catholic Church in Mesilla, NM Officiating will be Msgr. Robert Getz. Interment of his cremains will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
