Edna Alderete

March 5, 1929 — July 4, 2019

Edna T. Alderete went home to be with the Lord on July 4th, 2019 at the age of 90. She passed away peacefully in the early morning hours at her eldest son's home. Edna was born on March 5th, 1929 in San Marcial, New Mexico to Felix and Ysaura R. Torres. She had 11 siblings and is survived by her sisters: Tonnie Trapp, Jennie Saiz, Rosie Duran, and Marcella Espinoza. She grew up in Belen, New Mexico and graduated from Deming High School in Deming, New Mexico. Edna married Santos B. Alderete in Las Cruces, New Mexico on October 29th, 1950. She spent many wonderful years of her life as a homemaker, dedicated to raising her 8 beloved children in a strong Christian home. She was a well-respected member of Primera Iglesia Bautista (Primera Spanish Baptist Church) while her children were growing up. She was a Sunday School teacher and the leader of the Women's Circles bible studies. She spent countless hours reading her bible, embroidering, writing poetry, journaling, and keeping up with current events. She spent much of her time talking with friends and family, driving frequently to visit with those that she loved. She was a music and film lover. Edna is survived by the love of her life, Santos Alderete, 91; her loving children: Diane Alderete-Lopez (Ishmael), Richard Alderete (Stella), Michael Alderete, Elizabeth Acosta (Danny, deceased), Lawrence Alderete (Yolanda), Ruth Marie Alderete, Gregory Alderete, Daniel Alderete; 9 grandchildren: Adrienne Loera (Jose), Timothy Lopez (Shan), Christopher Alderete (Monica), Rebekah Acosta, Joshua Alderete (Christina), Celeste Alderete, James Acosta, Rechelle Hutson (Isaac), Benjamin Alderete; 9 great grandchildren: Marcos Ytuarte, Julian Loera, Jose Loera, Savannah Alderete, Alexander Lopez, Vidal Lopez, Abram Nosseir, Armez Nosseir, Hansin Holokai Lopez; loved ones who stuck with her through thick and through thin: Norma Jean Torres (sister-in-law), Linda Davenport, Manny Flores, Maria Provencio; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Ruth Pringle, Lucille Sanchez, Julia Lewallen, Alice Pacheco; her brothers Emilio Torres, Felix Torres Jr., Lazaro Torres. The viewing for Edna will be on Thursday, July 11th from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM at Getz Funeral Home (1410 E. Bowman Ave., Las Cruces, NM 88001). Her funeral service will be on Friday, July 12th from 1:00 PM-2:00 PM at Mesilla Valley Baptist Church (2928 La Mesilla Circle, Las Cruces, NM 88005). Burial will take place Hillcrest Memorial Gardens (5140 W. Picacho Ave., Las Cruces, NM 88007) on Friday, July 12th at 2:30 PM. A reception will take place back at Mesilla Valley Baptist Church, following the burial, where we will share memories and stories of Edna. The officiant of the services will be Pastor Guillermo Hernandez. Pallbearers will be Christopher Alderete, Joshua Alderete, James Acosta, Benjamin Alderete, Julian Loera, and Jose Loera.
