B.G. Newton Jr.

March 21, 1925 — May 27, 2007

B.G. Newton Jr. of Las Cruces, NM passed away Sunday, May 27, 2997 after a brief illness. He was born March 21, 1925 in Winnfield, Louisiana to Mr. and Mrs. B.G. Newton Sr. B.G. graduated from Pine Bluff High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and attended the University of Tennessee and the University of Cincinnati. He enlisted in the US Army at the age of 17 and was later awarded his Silver Pilots Wings and appointed as an officer with the United States Air Force. He was a pilot during World War II with the United States Air Force. B.G. was active duty from 1943 to 1945 and served in the Reserves from 1945 to 1958. After completing college he eventually moved his family to Satellite Beach, Florida where he began a long career with NASA and the Bendix Corporation at Cape Canaveral Space Center working with all the Apollo Missions. He later moved to Houston, Texas and eventually retired from Ross Hill Controls. Upon retirement he and Nell returned to Hobe Sound, Florida. His love and passion for Florida and the Atlantic Ocean was passed along to his children and grandchildren. B.G. is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Nell of Las Cruces, NM; two sons, Joseph Newton of Tampa, Florida and Mathew Newton of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Mary Pearlstein of Little Rock, Arkansas; two step-sons, Wesley Parker of Palm Bay, Florida and Michael Parker of Las Cruces, New Mexico. One sister, Sue Baird of Jackson Mississippi and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive B.G. At B.G.'s request, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will take place and be announced at a later date. PDF Printable Version
