Anna Jane Fair

October 20, 1921 — January 30, 2009

Anna Jane Fair of Las Cruces died peacefully surrounded by family on January 30, 2009 at Mesilla Valley Hospice. She was born Anna Jane Hoffman on October 20, 1921 in Wichita, Kansas. She is survived by Dale Fair, her dear husband of thirty years, and her three sons and their wives, Chuck and Annette Hunner of Asheville, N.C., Jon and Mary Ellen Hunner of Las Cruces, and Peter Hunner and Maibritt Jonsson of Gudhjem, Denmark. Anny enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Harley Hunner of Las Cruces, and Tess and Ben Hunner of Denmark and step grandchildren Tania, Alex, and Jack Holme and Jacob Hunner of Albuquerque. Anny graduated from the University of Kansas where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and earned a Masters in Biology from the University of New Mexico. She loved to travel and in addition to residing in several cities in the United States, she lived in Naples, Italy, Wiesbaden, Germany, and San Salvador, El Salvador. She visited over twenty five other countries with family and friends. Anny brought people together. She gave generously of her time and resources to family, friends, charitable organizations, and strangers. She loved to gather people around her at small dinners at home, at large parties at Picacho Hills Country Club, and at chance meetings everywhere. As the first born in her generation of the Hoffmans of Enterprise, Kansas, she became the family matriarch and reveled in keeping in contact with her far flung extended family, lately through e-mail. After moving to Las Cruces in 1997, Anny became an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and the Master Gardeners organization. For several years, she enjoyed editing the Master Gardener's newsletter. Anny celebrated life. A Memorial will be held on Feb. 3, 2009, 10 am at St. Andrew's Church, 518 N. Alameda Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church or Mesilla Valley Hospice. PDF Printable Version
