Our beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, and dear friend, IRENE G. FIERRO, age 73, of Las Cruces, answered the Lord’s calling on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 12, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, to Eva Rodriguez and Martin Gonzales. Irene was very involved with her church the Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe where she served on the finance committee for nearly 10 years. She also served on the board of directors as secretary for Los Indigenes de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe.
Irene graduated from North Dallas High School and loved participating in alumnae activities. She thrived in her career at General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin until 1998 when she and her husband moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico to build her dream home. She later graduated from New Mexico State University with an associate degree in Business Administration and retired from her admin position with NMSU in 2019. Irene enjoyed reading, camping, fishing, dancing, and tending to her garden, her many animals, and their pecan orchard. She was a very devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and would often be found cheering for her beloved Cowboys on Sundays. Irene loved spending quality time with her friends, children, and grandchildren and will be forever remembered for her awesome dance moves, warm smile, and contagious laughter.
Irene is survived by her husband, Antonio “Tony/Boy” Fierro, of Las Cruces, and three daughters, Marlena DeLaGarza-Silva (Jesse Silva), Andrea Fierro (Richard Cremo) of Fort Worth, TX, and Arianna Fierro Anchondo (David Anchondo) of Las Cruces, NM, granddaughters Gabriella Fierro, Lydia Jones Fierro and Isabella Fierro. Other survivors include her Mother Eva Gonzales and brothers Martin and Raymond Gonzales of Dallas, TX, as well as numerous, nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws. She was predeceased in death by her Father, Martin Gonzales.
Services for Irene Fierro will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2023, at the Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 3600 Parroquia Street in Tortugas with Recitation of the Holy Rosary. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter with the Reverend Valentine Jankowski as Celebrant. At her request cremation will take place and the Internment of cremains will be held at a later date.
Serving as casket bearers will be Sedrick James, Tomas Sanchez, Elam Sanchez, Felipe Nevarez and Nicholas Cook. Honorary casket bearers are Aundrew Fierro, Mundo Martinez, and Micah Caro.
