Obituary for Virginia Ann Miller (Katz)

Virginia Ann Miller (Katz)
Virginia Ann Miller passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on May 5, 2021, at the age of 86. Virginia is proceeded in death by her husband Robert “Stanley” Miller, her son Kevin Brian Miller; 2 grandsons Bryan Charles Miller and Justyn Lee Miller; her sister-in-law Daisy Lee Corgan and her parents George and Sophie Katz.

Virginia is survived by her daughter Valerie R. Miller-Rodriguez (son-in-law Gilbert), her grandchildren Zachary Rodriguez (partner Amanda Bustamante), Ezekiel Rodriguez (wife Yesenia), Dylan Miller, Kyle and Tyler McWilliams; great grandchildren Jeanine and Aimee Rodriguez, Kevin Raymond, Jesse James, Scarlette Hope, and Henry James Miller; Noah Bustamante, Zirah Flores; Lorenzo and Serenna Torres, Sultana Piedra; sister Evelyn Taylor, sister and brother in law Dorothy and Luther McDougal, brother-in-law Dr. Joe Corgan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia was born in Deming, New Mexico, to George and Sophie Katz on December 26, 1934. She was born at the family’s gas station and homestead and was the youngest of three sisters. Virginia was raised on a farm south of Deming where her family raised cows and successfully grew cotton, grain, corn and pinto beans. Being raised on a farm taught Virginia the strong work ethic and a moral compass she carried deep in her heart. She never complained about anything and always turned difficult situations into pure joy. During Virginia’s younger years, she and her two sisters accompanied their mother into town each weekend to sell milk. Her mother would give each girl 5 cents and they would eagerly visit the local matinée, while Sophie delivered milk. Virginia graduated from Deming High School in 1953 and went on to attend New Mexico State University. She worked as an executive secretary in the AG department for several years. In 1957 Virginia married the love of her life Robert “Stanley” Miller. The couple purchased, sold and managed real estate. They opened and established Monarch Real Estate in 1965. Although Virginia enjoyed working with Stanley, her passion was family. She wanted a big family and always joked about having 7 children. In 1963 Virginia’s dream came true when she and Stanley adopted their first child Valerie Rae. Kevin Brian joined the family in 1965. Virginia’s life mission began when she was blessed with her two beautiful children. Her focus was raising her children and taking care of the family home. She was always planning and orchestrating activities for her children and their friends. Virginia was considered the neighborhood “Block Mom.” She had snacks and activities waiting for all the kids when they got off the bus! She was involved in their many school events and was always the “Class Mom.” Virginia enjoyed cooking, baking, cake decorating, painting, crafting, gardening and designing. Her house was immaculate and decorated so beautifully. She was involved in a local garden club and maintained a gorgeous yard. Her support of her children continued into their adult lives. She was actively involved in their careers and was a golden ray of support! Virginia wore many hats in her lifetime. She was proudest of being a grandmother, or “MeMaw,” as she was so fondly called. She spent the last 36 years loving, babysitting, educating, playing with, attending school/sporting events, experiencing life and doting on these children. Virginia’s influence and love will be forever felt and treasured by her family!

A celebration of Virginia Ann Miller’s life will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Getz Funeral home 1410 E. Bowman Ave. Visitation will take place at 10 am with her grandson Ezekiel Rodriguez officiating services at 11 am. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Garden Cemetery immediately following the services.

Pallbearers will be Gilbert, Zachary, Ezekiel, and Greg Rodriguez, Tony Lara and Andres Borunda.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Juana Lopez, Grandma Rosa Rodriguez, Lupe Morales; Dr. William Baker and staff; Dr. Rolando Cadena and staff; Tender Care staff Carissa, Cesiah, Natalia, Monique and Matthew; Memorial Medical Center; Mesilla Valley Hospice staff Whitney, Delta and Charlene, and the many close family and friends whose care, compassion and devotion to Virginia will always be remembered!
