Obituary for Louis John Bevacqua Jr.

Louis John Bevacqua Jr.
Louis John Bevacqua, Jr. passed away in Las Cruces, NM on December 30, 2020. Affectionately known to his family as Buddy, he was born July 7, 1954 in Liberal, Kansas to Louis J. Bevacqua, Sr and Gertrude (Bjornson) Bevacqua.

He was a 1972 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Midland, TX. He went on to study at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX where he earned a B.S. in Agriculture in 1976, majoring in Range and Wildlife Management. After graduation he began an over 40 year career with the US Bureau of Land Management in Las Cruces, NM, retiring in January of 2020.

He was a loving and cherished son and the most wonderful and tolerant brother. Quiet and reserved by nature he was a hard worker, a loyal and giving friend, kind and honest with a strong commitment to his Catholic faith and values. He built a successful life and was very self sufficient. Material trapping of this world meant little to him. He stayed true to himself and didn’t change who he was as the world became
more technology centric around him. He was happy with his routines and interests and more “old school” solutions. Nothing fancy.

A better listener than a talker, he was compassionate and generous to others, often donating sick and vacation hours to ill coworkers. He loved animals and sports, especially track and field and baseball. He was an avid runner/ walker and was for many years a member of the Sun Country Striders Volkssport Club, participating in and helping with scenic walking events in the Las Cruces area. He loved the National Parks and the scenic beauty of Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks Natl. Monument near Las Cruces.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Lucretia Bevacqua of Midland, TX., sister Anna Brewer of Plano, TX, brother Tony Bevacqua of Austin, TX, nephews Paul Brewer and Colin Brewer and numerous cousins and friends.

Buddy is and will be profoundly missed by his family. Every memory of his life on this earth will be forever cherished. He was the absolute perfect brother, the most honest, selfless and purely good person we will ever know in our lives. We hope to see him again in Heaven. “ Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:5-10.

A memorial Mass will be planned for a later date in Las Cruces, NM due to Covid pandemic concerns.

Any donations in his memory should be directed to American Volkssport Association,1008 S. Alamo Street, San Antonio, TX, Catholic Charities or charity of your choice.
