Obituary for Frances L. Pack (Pickard)

Frances L. Pack (Pickard)
OBITUARY
Frances L. (Pickard) Pack, a native Las Crucen, was born to Wesley and Lucille Pickard in 1931. She lived here her entire life and graduated from Las Cruces Union High School. She married Richard (Pete) Pack in 1948. They enjoyed life together for 55 years until his death in 2003.
Frankie, as she was fondly known, was employed by E. B. Law and Son for 10 years. In 1959, she became the Administrative Secretary with the Department of Agricultural Services at New Mexico State University. After 28 years of service there, she completed her final two years before retirement in a similar position in the History Department.
She served as the Dona Ana County Farm Bureau Women's Chairman and Information Director
for New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau for many years. During that time, she organized both a
blood drive and Goodwill Donations Drive. She served as a judge of agriculture entries at the
Southern New Mexico State Fair for many years.
After retirement, she and Pete became famous for the delicious cantaloupes he grew and were sold at a stand in their yard for several years. The couple were active members of the Three Crosses RV Travel Club and enjoyed traveling with many friends. They particularly enjoyed many camping vacations in Red River, NM. They traveled on tours seeing many areas in the United States. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a cruise to Alaska.

After Pete's death she volunteered at El Caldito Soup Kitchen, was co-chairman for the monthly Senior Potluck and a member of the NMSU Extension Wives Luncheon. She was an active member of The First Presbyterian Church and truly loved the Lord.
She is survived by her soulmate and companion, Roger Sellers. Her sister, Mary Louise Brooks, and
brother Robert also remain in the area. Nephews Richard Pickard, Robert's son, and his wife, Tonia
and Mike Pack and wife, Stevie, Pamela and Gary Pack all were very close family members for many
years. She is also survived by many other close relatives, mainly grand nieces and nephews. Her most beloved
friends in her neighborhood were the Louis Grijalva family.
She loved life; always had a pleasant smile and a deep appreciation of her many friends.
