Obituary for Agustin S. Paz Sr.

The Paz family would like to announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Agustin S. Paz, age 95 entered eternal life on August 29, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

A lifelong resident of Tortugas, NM he was born May 5, 1923 to Antonio and Rafaela Paz. The oldest of 11 siblings, survivors include Alice Saenz, Arturo Paz, Genevieve Martinez, Jesus Paz, Jose Paz, Virginia Jacquez, and preceded in death by Anne Hernandez (D), Francisco Paz (D), Gabriel Paz (D), and Rumaldo Paz (D).

He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He worked with the Bureau of Reclamation and was later hired at White Sands Missile Range where he served as a labor leader until retirement. During his lifetime he helped many who were in difficult situations. He was an advocate for those who worked under him; and he was trusted and respected for that.

In 1947 he met and married the love of his life Maria V. Bustamante, they celebrated 60 years of marriage and had four children. He is survived by his daughter Bertha Paz of Tortugas, son Agustin Paz Jr. and wife Linda of Tortugas, son Fred Paz and wife Hilda of Tortugas, and preceded in death by his son Samuel Paz and surviving spouse Kathy. Surviving grandkids include Michelle Paz, Amy Nava, Amelia Antone, Wintery Avery, Isaiah Paz, JR Begay, Stephen Nava, Tony Paz, Nizhoni Paz, Lorena Padilla, David Paz, and Alliss Paz. In his earlier years he was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church; he was church activities and assisted in the construction and restoration of several church facilities. He was a member of La Corporacion de Tortugas and the oldest member of the Danzantes serving as the Monarca.

He was the patriarch of his family, throughout his life he served his Lord Jesus Christ he was a counselor at times to his children and grandchildren and helped them in their lives. He was a very generous and wise father and grandfather and great grandfather. By example, he taught the family about love and forgiveness.

He was a member of Cedar Hills Church of the Cross, where he attended until his death. He was loved by many at church, and enjoyed interacting with all and sharing part of his life stories. He loved singing and praising God in his own simple way.

Although he will be deeply missed we rejoice that he is now at peace with our Lord Jesus Christ.
