Condolences

Condolence From: Doris Morgan
Condolence: The tremendous energy Sandy displayed for years on end following a heart attack was remarkable. My fondest memory will be the high regard we held for each other. I loved his great sense of humor, and ability to laugh at himself. He was an amazing man.

Condolence: Stuart & Denise. My condolences to your family. I use to hear about Dr. Schemnitz from my sister, Dianne, as she worked on two degrees in Wildlife. He certainly lived a long, interesting life and influenced many people. I know that both of you have spent a great deal of time and energy in these last few years taking good care of him and his interests. My thoughts are with you. Sherry

Condolence From: Carol Evans
Condolence: I believe I may have been his last Graduate student at NMSU. He was quite a character, as was his wife Mary. I took Mary in the field when I was tracking scaled quail, and she knew more about wildlife than him! He would remove his hearing aids when he did not want to talk any more. He was always supportive of me and proud of his students and his family. He will be missed. I am sorry for your loss.

Condolence From: Jim Ramakka
Condolence: Sandy was my MS advisor at the University of Maine and became a good friend when we reconnected in New Mexico. He never lost his passion for wildlife and the wildlife profession. He had a big heart and would always brag about his family and his students when we saw each other. I will miss him.

Condolence From: Fred Owensby
Condolence: Dr. Schemnitz was my advisor in Wildlife Science at NMSU where I received my degree in Wildlife Biology in the late 1980s. I loved his classes as he was so knowledgeable and entertaining. He took us students on several field trips where we all learned so much from him. The Wildlife community lost a great man, professor and scholar.

Condolence From: Bob Jenks
Condolence: Sandy was very influential in my formative university years and later in my career. Unarguably, he was also prominent in the professional development of hundreds, if not thousands, of students and natural resource professionals. He has left a lasting legacy in New Mexico. His presence will be missed, but his accomplishments will endure.
